What Is A Custom Fit Golf Club?
Let me answer this question by asking one. Do you think a player like Tiger or Annika simply walk into a sporting
goods store and pick out a set of clubs off the display rack to use in any given tournament? I think not!
However, if those "off the rack" clubs are as good as most of you out there believe they are, why don't the professionals
do just that? Go pick a set up at a store and head on over to the first tee?
The professionals understand the importance of having everything about their clubs customized to their game. Those clubs
are built from the ground-up around their swings. They can't afford to have a couple of clubs that they "can't hit" in their bags. Each
club in their bag is designed to perform at it's best for them.
Back to us mere mortals. If the pros have their sets completely custom built, why shouldn't we? A is completely built around YOUR swing. There are 3 major components to a golf club; the head,
the shaft, and the grip. Putting all 3 together to make a golf club is easy. Anyone can learn how to do that within an hour or two.
However, finding the optimal combination of the 3 for you and your game is what sets apart a custom built club from a mass-produced
club that anyone can pick up at a store!
Here's a fact for you. There are 20 different characteristics of a golf club that a clubfitter/clubmaker will consider when custom building
a set for a golfer. It's absolutely impossible to mass build sets of golf clubs for the retail market that are anywhere near custom.
Each of us have swing characteristics that are unique to us alone. There is no way that the big name brand clubs you see on the display
racks at the retail stores are built to take that into account. The result is thousands of golfers who paid way too much for golf clubs
that hurt their ability to hit the ball well.
Most golfers are playing with clubs that aren't a good match for their swings! In fact, about 90% of the golfing
public falls into this category. When a golf club is a bad match for the golfer's swing, he/she develops a very bad habit. They
alter their swing so they can hit the ball with that club! In the process, they engrain some very bad mechanical flaws into their
swing. This leads to endless frustration and less and less enjoyment of the game.
